Athens

Athens is the capital city of Greece and has a population of more than 700.000 people. Athens is a very special city and as well as being the capital and the economical and political centre of the country, it is a unique and very historical place.

Athens is one of the most ancient cities in existence with a history of more than 3000 years. Because of this, we can limitlessly enjoy the archaeological and historical heritage of Athens in the Greek era as in the Byzantine and Roman eras.

Many tourist come to Athens by flying to the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport that is located about 20 kilometres from the city. It has three seaports; the most important is in Piraeus and the others are in Rafina and in Laurium. The urban transport system that was renovate for the 2004 Olympic Games has a metro, tranvias, trains, buses and taxis.

Some of the most interesting places to see in the City of Athens are the Acropolis, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Kerameikos, the Agora, the Roman Forums, the commercial Monastiraki and Plaka neighbourhoods, the Archaeology Museum, Mount Lycabettus, the Microlimano neighbourhood, the Banaki Museum and Cape Sunion etc.
